Educational Philosophy

Look deep into nature, and you will understand everything better.

Our playgroup is founded on the belief that young children grow best when they are allowed to explore nature, in the company of happy, hard-working and caring adults. There are four parts to our philosophy:

Nature connection: Research shows that exposure to nature in early years makes children healthier, happier and smarter in the long run.  Spending a sustained amount of time in nature improves children's physical skills and it also leads to superior cognitive and emotional abilities. We believe that connecting with nature is particularly important for urban children, who tend to be more indoor-bred.

Risky play: Children are fearless by design and research shows that risky play is good for developing their ability for emotional regulation and their mental fitness. Children's exposure to risky play in early years has also been linked to entrepreneurial readiness later on. We believe that the amount of risk in children’s play must be regulated only to the extent that serious injuries and extreme misconduct are prevented.

Adults as role models: We believe that our role as educators is not to teach children but to be good role models for them to imitate. Being around well-centred, caring adults, engaged in purposeful work, sets the foundation for children to become learners for life. Our playgroup leaders are committed to their growth as much as of the children they serve.

Rhythms: We use the Waldorf approach of rhythms to inculcate habits in children and to provide balance. Along with being good role models, it is our duty as adults to help set healthy schedules for children and to keep them connected with changes in their natural environment. Guided activities in our program are designed based on this principle.
